Obituary

Rose Ann Rakocy, age 83, of Colon, passed away at Insight Hospital and Medical Center in Coldwater on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Rose was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 13, 1942, a daughter of the late George and Ann (Toronto) Minisci. She grew up in Detroit and graduated from Edwin C. Denby High School with the Class of 1960. She moved to Colon in 1971 and had been a resident ever since.

On April 18, 1970, Rose married Phillip F. Rakocy in Detroit. They shared 39 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 12, 2009.

Rose worked for over 20 years as a banker at local banks in Colon. After retiring from banking, she spent three years working at Maxitrol in Colon before retiring for good. She was a member of the Colon American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Rose loved camping and spending time with her family. She also loved to talk and share stories that only she could remember.

She is survived by her daughter, Rose (Larry) Bontrager of Colon, and son, Jeff (Kathy) Rakocy of Colon; three grandsons: Gary Bontrager of Scotts, Eric Bontrager of Clawson, and Zach (Logan) Darmofal of Vicksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rose was preceded in death by her two brothers, Vincenzo "Vince" Nuccio and Vito "Billy" Nuccio.

The Rakocy family will receive friends and relatives at Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. in Colon on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be directed to the Colon American Legion Post 454. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
