Obituary

Robert E. Stoll, of Sherwood, Michigan, passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on October 7, 1945 in Sturgis, Michigan, Robert’s life was deeply rooted in the communities of Colon and Sherwood, where his steadfast work ethic and commitment to service left a profound impact on all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Colon High School, Class of 1963, Robert’s involvement in his community and devotion to his family were hallmarks of his life. From an early age, he was drawn to the land, farming his entire life and embracing agriculture as both a vocation and a way of life. Between 1975 and 1981, he owned Stoll Oil Co. in Colon alongside his father, further demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to the family business.

Robert faithfully served his country in the United States Army, exemplifying a commitment to service that would carry through into his civilian life. He was a member of the Colon American Legion and gave two decades of service as a Matteson Township Trustee, where his guidance and reliability were deeply valued.

In addition to his career and community involvement, Robert was known for his appreciation of the outdoors. Whether it was cutting wood, farming, or driving his gator around the neighborhood, he found joy in nature's simplicity. He was also a passionate basketball fan and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren.

Faith played an important role in Robert’s life. He attended Our Savior Lutheran Church in Union City and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Colon, remaining connected to his spiritual community throughout his life.

On August 12, 1967, Robert married Carol Jean Mayer in Colon, Michigan. Their marriage was a partnership marked by deep love and mutual respect. Carol preceded him in death on June 16, 2006.

Robert is survived by his sons, Todd (Kathy) Stoll of Colon, Ted (Rebcca) Stoll of Sherwood, and Timothy (Julie) Stoll of Sherwood, as well as his dear friend Sharon Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father, Darwin L. Stoll; mother, Grace J. (Metzger) Stoll; his beloved wife, Carol Stoll; brother, Bill Stoll; and granddaughter, Amber Stoll.
