Phyllis Jean Winston age 78 of Colon, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.Phyllis was born in Coldwater, Michigan on June 17, 1941 a daughter to the late James and Ruth (Bergman) Dery.Phyllis graduated from Coldwater High School with the class of 1959. She would continue her education on to Western Michigan University where she would obtain a bachelor's degree in teaching. Phyllis went on to teach at Colon Community Schools for 35 years where she would eventually retire from.On July 1, 1961 Phyllis married Gus Winston in Coldwater.Phyllis is survived by her husband Gus Winston of Colon, Son Gus "Rusty" (Tammy) Winston III of Bronson, Daughter Krista (Dave) Jourdan-Graham of Marcellus, four Grand Children; Gus "Ross" (Ashley) Winston IV, Heather (Reuben) Burnside, Clinton Winston, Kevin (Cari) Jourdan, and six Great Grand Children.Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Norman Dery, and a sister Ruth Dorothea Tholen.Following in the families wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon with a memorial service taking place at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. David J. Farrell officiating. If desired memorials may be made to either the Colon Rescue Squad or the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
