Monte Dean Ray age 84 of Sherwood passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Monte was born on May 7, 1940, in Sturgis, Michigan, a son to the late Thomas C. and Hattie (Dietrich) Ray Sr.

Monte married JoAnn H. Gazella. Together they had 5 children. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Monte then married Nancy A. Sanford.

Monte was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed horses, riding his Harley, attending motorcycle and car shows, and collecting model trains. He was a talented wood worker making wagons and sleighs. Monte was a big fan of his sweets, especially his Pepsi, chips, chocolate, and sandwich cookies.

Surviving Monte is his wife Nancy A. Ray of Sherwood, children: Tina Mercer of Ocilla, GA, Kelly (Glen) Borntreger of Centreville, David (Angela) Ray of Jones, John (Tammi) Ray of White Pigeon, Suzanna (Brian) Miller of Three Rivers, stepson: Michael (Kim) Sechrest of Sherwood, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, half-sisters: Jamie Watson of Holt, Cyndy Piper of Apache Junction, AZ, a brother in law: Thomas (Cindy) Sanford, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents Thomas and Hattie Ray, Monte was preceded in death by his siblings: Thomas C. Ray Jr. and Shirley Schaeffer.

Following in his wish's cremation has taken place. There are no services planned at this time.
