Lewis Eugene Miller, 88, of Sturgis, passed peacefully into eternity, Tuesday, July 7,2026, where he was greeted by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a “Well done good and faithful servant!”
He was born January 7, 1938 to Emanuel & Anna (Amstutz) Miller. The eldest of 5 children, he made his home in the Colon area, graduating from Colon High School in 1955. In the fall of 1955 he met a shy, pretty girl by the name of Ruby Troyer. She soon stole his heart and they were wed June 3, 1956 in Fairview, MI. For 42 years they remained in the Colon area raising their family in the same house he had grown up in, before moving to his last location north of Sturgis.
He owned and operated Miller’s Shell Station in Burr Oak before settling into farm equipment repair. He was a faithful employee at Finnermans in Centreville for 29 years where he enjoyed getting to know many of the area farmers. In recent years, the highlight of his week was Friday morning coffee with his sons reminiscing and solving the world’s problems. He enjoyed traveling with Ruby, genealogy, and taking “shortcuts” which inevitably led to “long cuts”. Collecting and repairing John Deere lawn tractors was one of his favorite past times. He was well known for his expertise at fixing what others could not. Many times we have heard people say, “If Louie can’t fix it nobody can”. Family and friends and even strangers were blessed because of his passion and love for helping people.
Even though he lost his fine example of a father at a young age, he navigated his role as a father with skill. He wasn’t perfect but he did his best and loved his family well. He seldom failed to offer his advice, whether solicited or unsolicited, but always done with love and wise counsel. If one was around their home early in the morning you would undoubtedly have heard him and Ruby praying for each family member by name.
He was a member of Locust Grove Church where he served in many capacities over the years including his favorite role as Sunday School teacher. He loved studying his Bible and sharing what he learned with others. He was a friend to many, often visiting or calling just to check up on those he cared about. His wisdom, his wit, his care, and his “hurry back now would ya?” will be missed by all of us. Most of all we will miss his love which has carried us through life. Because of Jesus, we look forward to the day we can join him and mom in Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Ruby, his parents, Emanuel and Anna, son, Mike Miller, grandson, Elijah Miller, great grandson Austin Krick, and brother-in-law, Ervin Wickey.
He is survived by his children: Jim (Patty) Miller of Colon, Kevin (Joy) Miller of Burr Oak, JoAnn (Mike) Krick of Sturgis, Trudy (Jim) Zook of Lake Odessa, Karen (Craig) Keefer of Grand Ledge, and daughter-in-law, Darlene (Al) Bontrager of Sturgis, 23 grand children, 40 great grand children, and 3 great great grandchildren. His treasured siblings: Phyllis Wickey of Burr Oak,Paul (Louise) Miller of Colorado, Tom (Margery) Miller of Sherwood, and Betty (Larry) Marvin of Sturgis and many nieces and nephews.
Well done dad. Well done.
Private interment will take place in Locust Grove Cemetery. A memorial service celebrations Lewis’ life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Locust Grove Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be directed to Three Rivers Hospice.
