Jerry J Pettit age 72 of Marion, Indiana and formerly of Sturgis, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana.
Jerry was born on September 7, 1951, in Marshall, Michigan, a son to the late Frank E. and Mae L. (Damon) Pettit. Jerry was a graduate of Marshall High School with the class of 1970.
On August 28, 1993, Jerry married Jennifer Logan in Sturgis, Michigan.
At the age of 16 Jerry started his very own lawn service, Pettit's Lawn Service with his old sears hand mower that he had for 30 days until he bought a John Deere rider mower. He continued Pettit's Lawn Service on and off until the last few years of his life. Often times you could find him with his "right hand girl" his daughter Hannah working alongside of him as with many others throughout the years.
Jerry was employed for 10 years at General Motors where he met his dear friends Jerry (Pat) Dusseau. He also served the Lord throughout many different ministries in his life. Whether it was being the Lead Pastor, leading kids to Jesus in Super Church, or calling on God in the wee hours of the morning during prayer, Jerry loved being a vessel for God.
Throughout life, Jerry was an avid NASCAR fan, Michigan Football fan and enjoyed watching and cheering loudly in any sport either of his kids played through the years. His competitive side showed through as he played many card and board games with friends and family through the years.
Those who know him even just for a minute would know he is one of the best story tellers you'd ever meet and would talk to anyone who would listen.Along with his storytelling, came his gift of prayer. Jerry was a prayer warrior that led many divine interventions through the night hours calling on God for those in need. During retirement you could often find Jerry chauffeuring his Amish friends and enjoying their company. In his later years Jerry enjoyed being able to feed and watch the birds and squirrels, and even got his granddaughter to enjoy looking up new birds together in their bird book. While Jerry enjoyed many aspects of life there was nothing more important to him than spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Surviving Jerry today is his wife of 30 years, Jennifer (Logan) Pettit of Marion, Indiana, daughter Hannah (Ryan) Skeens of Sweetser, Indiana, grandchildren: Kynlee and Taysom Skeens, brother L. Gene (Karla) Pettit of Scotts, Michigan, sister Judy (Vito) Ragusa of Battle Creek, Michigan, brother-in-law Ryan (Wendy) Stevens of Burr Oak, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Besides his parents Frank E. and Mae L. Pettit, Jerry was preceded in death by his son Thomas E. Pettit, and nephews: Lonnie Gene Pettit and Alan Love.
The Pettit family will receive friends and relatives from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Firm Foundation Ministries: 651 E Main St, Centreville, MI 49032. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 6:00 PM also at Firm Foundation Ministries, with Pastor Rick Webb officiating. Following in his wish's cremation will take place.
