James (Jim) D. Edgett II age 82 of Punta Gorda and of Goodrich Lake in Colon, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Jim was born on November 28, 1939, in Battle Creek, Michigan, a son of the late James and Margaret (Olmstead) Edgett.
Jim graduated from Howe Military School in 1957. He then attended De Paw University and graduated in 1962. Jim owned and operated B&J Moving for 35 years.
On January 30, 1957, Jim married his wife of 65 years Barbara Kane in Centreville, Michigan.
Jim was a huge Michigan State Spartans fan. He had the privilege to handle the transportation of many Michigan State Football teams and supplies over the years. Jim's love for the Spartans was almost as big as his love for his German Shorthair Pointers. His love for GSP's and the Spartans led them to a room named after one of their GSP's, Daisy. The Daisy Edgett Ophthalmology Room was named after Daisy Edgett for not only her kind loving soul but because of Jim and Barbara's as well. Jim will be missed by all, especially by his beloved German Shorthair Pointer Siri.
Jim is survived today by his wife Barbara Edgett of Colon, children: Deborah Porter of Portage, James (Therese) Edgett III of Grand Ledge, and Glenn (Jody) Edgett of Grand Ledge, 7 grandchildren: Mandy Porter, Chelsea Lugibihl (Dustin), Rachel Petzold (Steven), James Edgett IV (McKenzie), Megan Barnett (Michael), Leah Edgett, Chandler Edgett, and 2 great grandchildren with another due any day, and his GSP Siri.
Besides his parents James and Margaret Edgett, Jim was preceded in death by his stepmother / mother-in-law Louise Kane Edgett, son in law Roger Porter, and all of his past beloved GSP's.
Following in Jim's wish's cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. The Edgetts ask that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the MSU Veterinary Ophthalmology Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
