Eretta Theo Gwinn, a lifelong resident of Branch County, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026 in Coldwater, Michigan, at the age of 93. Born on February 11, 1933, in Girard Township, Michigan, Eretta’s remarkable life was defined by unwavering kindness, devotion to family, and an enduring commitment to her community.
Eretta graduated from Coldwater High School with the Class of 1950, a milestone that set the foundation for her lifelong journey in the beauty industry. She went on to complete her studies at Wright Beauty Academy, and soon thereafter, began what would become a storied 55-year career as a cosmetologist. With entrepreneur spirit and creativity, Eretta owned and operated Eretta’s Beauty Booth, an establishment she launched in Colon and later brought to Bronson. Her shop became more than a place for a haircut or styling; it was a hub of warmth, laughter, and lifelong friendships. Through decades of dedication, Eretta’s artistry and kindness touched the lives of generations in the community.
Outside of her professional life, Eretta was known for her vibrant personality and varied interests. For more than 60 years, she played monthly Canasta games with a loyal group of ladies, an enduring tradition that brought joy, camaraderie, and countless memories. She square danced, bowled, and found solace in reading, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku—always eager to keep her mind sharp and engaged. Above all, Eretta had a generous spirit: her door was always open to anyone who needed a friend, comfort, or simply a listening ear.
Eretta’s greatest pride was her family. She is survived by her loving children: Synda (Steve Danbury) Sunday of Coldwater, Lyn Sunday of Burr Oak, Rodney (Jody) Sunday of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Trudy Rubley of Burr Oak, Tamara (Craig) Mohney of Bronson, Duane Green of Colon, Charles (Marissa) Green of Colon, and Gwinn (Julie Jowette-Lee) Green of Marysville, Michigan. Her rich legacy continues through twenty grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, each blessed with memories of her warmth, humor, and steadfast support.
Eretta also leaves behind her siblings: Gayle (Gero) Swift of Bronson, Errolyn (Jerry) Martin of Girard, Judy Walbeck of Kalamazoo, and several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Errol Thompkins and Virl Louise (Clark) Gwinn, her sister Kaye Hart, her nephew Andy Chehowski, and her great-grandson Brandon Shetterly. Their memories remained sources of strength and solace for Eretta throughout her days.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Schipper Funeral Home Ltd, 308 S Blackstone Ave, Colon, MI, on June 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Eretta’s extraordinary capacity for compassion and her zest for life leave an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her. Her legacy will continue in the cherished traditions, stories, and love that survive her.
