Carl I. Johnson, born on December 3, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was 79 years old. Carl’s life was defined by dedication to his family, excellence in his profession, and loyal service to his community.
From his earliest days in Chicago, Carl distinguished himself as a person of integrity and quiet determination. He completed his early education at Bloom Township in Chicago Heights, graduating in 1963, before pursuing further studies at Michigan Technological University. In 1971, he earned his bachelor’s degree, a testament to his commitment to learning and his strong work ethic.
Carl’s professional journey was notable for both its longevity and impact. He devoted over thirty years as a sales engineer with MI Allied Construction of Clarkston, where he became highly respected among colleagues and clients alike. In addition to his engineering expertise, Carl was a licensed surveyor, a reflection of his technical acumen and his versatility within his field.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Carl dedicated himself to meaningful personal pursuits and to service within his local community. He was an active member of Masonic Lodge #120 in Charlotte, Michigan, upholding the highest ideals of fraternity and civic duty. His commitment to these principles earned him the esteem of all who worked alongside him.
In his personal life, Carl found great joy in his years spent on Long Lake in Colon, Michigan—a place where he built lasting friendships and enjoyed the peacefulness of nature.
On February 14, 1971, Carl married Sheri D. Wilcox in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. The two shared a loving partnership until Sheri’s passing on November 23, 2007. Carl’s devotion to Sheri and their relationship was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with steadfast support and companionship.
Carl is survived by his brother, Johnny Johnson; his brother-in-law, Robin Wilcox; his sister-in-law, Sue Glick; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sheri Johnson, and his sister-in-law, Debra Johnson. He was also predeceased by his parents, John I. and Melba H. (Brower) Johnson, whose influence shaped the values and character that defined Carl’s life.
Family, friends, and all those whose lives Carl touched are invited to pay their respects during visitations at Schipper Funeral Home Ltd, 308 S Blackstone Ave, Colon, MI 49040, on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., immediately prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will take place at the same location on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with interment following at 2:45 p.m.
Carl I. Johnson will be remembered as a committed professional, a devoted family man, and a steadfast friend. His legacy endures through the many lives he enriched, the respect he earned in his field, and the love he offered so generously to those closest to him.
